Task 4: The effect of the football game Monday August 17th

By now you should have read and summarised up to the end of chapter 16. Here are four thought provoking questions. Answer them in one comment.

1) What was the effect of the result of the football game on the town?

2) How do you explain Blacky's feelings?

3) Why do you think Blacky feels uncomfortable about the graffiti on the jetty shed?

4) What is Darcy warning Blacky about? Does Blacky understand? Does Clarence?

  4. The effect of the footy game by Damien Main
Everybody in the town was really happy and exited that they won the flag. It was the first premiership in Port for 38 years so everyone was over the moon. Blacky felt like a fraud because he didn't mean to tackle the thumper. Blacky feels uncomfortable about the graffiti on the shed because he was there with Clarence and also he didn't scratch it out when it was first written. Darcy warns Blacky about all of the girls having the 'clap'. I don't think that Blacky understands but Clarence does.

  6. Every one in the town saw the game and were really happy about the win because it was the first premiership for 38 years. Blacky was really happy and excited to go to the do in town but was feeling giulty because he hadn't meant to tackle the Thumper. Blacky feels uncomfortable and embarressed about the graffiti because he was siting there with Clarence who is a nunga. Darcy warns Blacky that the Aboriginal girls are nice but that they all have the clap. Blacky doesn't understand what the 'clap' was but i think Clarence does because she dislikes Darcy from then on.

  8. The effect of the footy game on the town was a good thing, everyone was really happy that there footy team had won something after 38 years, everyone was so proud!

Blacky felt like a cheat because he didnt mean to stop the thumper he just accidently got in his way, before that Blacky had decided that he was going to give up - he doesnt even like footy that much so he didnt really care about the outcome.

Blacky feels guilty about the graffiti because he was with Clarence and because he didnt do anything about it when he first saw it was there.

Darcy was warning Blacky about the clap, Blacky didnt know what he was talking about though, i think Clarence understands what his talking about.

  12. It was a great effect on the town because the havent won the flag in 38 years! Everyone was very happy for them.

We felt like he cheated everybody becasue he knew he didn't really tackle the thumper, he just got in the way.

He felt uncomfy about it because a white person wrote that, and he is a white person but he didn't do anything about it.

Darcy was warning him about the clap. Blacky didn't know about it but Clarence did.

  14. The whole town was very pleased with the results as they hadnt won a premiership in 38 years. It was exciting news for everyone.
Blacky felt guilty for all the praise he was getting, as he didnt actually mean to tackle the thumper, he was trying to get out of his way.
Blacky feels uncomfortable with the grafitti on the jetty shed as it was obviously a white person that wrote 'boongas piss off' and blacky is also white, so he feels partly responsible.
Darcy warns blacky about girls, he says 'all them blck girls have the claps' blacky doesnt really understand what Darcy means.
